The holiday season can be stressful with kids. It can be even more stressful when you have a split family. I have heard horror stories about parents fighting over who gets the kids for what holiday. Bitter parents, take notes.

Believe it or not I never had to deal with this issue. When Trent's dad and I split up we agreed that we would never make him choose between us. He shouldn't have to and it's so emotionally damaging when kids feel like they have to pick a side. We always make sure he gets to see both of his parents if possible.

We have combined holidays and birthday parties when we can. We visit my ex's side of the family for graduations and birthdays. Am I saying that you have to do exactly what I do? Absolutely not. What I am saying is that if it's safe for them to spend time with the both of you this holiday season and the only thing stopping it is bitterness between the two of you...LET IT GO! The biggest gift you can give them this year is love. Cheesy, I know, but Trent has so much love in his life because we don't keep him from the other parent.

Cheers,
