I remember Christmas morning when I was a kid. My mom would always make a huge breakfast for us before we opened presents. We would spend the day watching A Christmas Story and all the other old, Christmas classics. We remember traditions we had as kids. When you get older and have your own family you get to make your own, or incorporate the ones you grew up with. Here's some fun ideas you can try this year.

Yulelog

Every year Trent and I go hiking to find the perfect Yule log to burn in our fireplace. We burn the log Christmas Eve to symbolize the return of the sun, because let's be real, you're totally over winter now right? We are. If you don't have a fire place to burn the log you can put tea light candles in it and decorate it as a fun activity for the kids.

Holiday Meal

I love cooking. I also am an herbalist, so making big meals using different herbs and spices has always been a huge part of this time of year for me. I usually pick one meal and make all the things. Roast, pie, roasted vegetables, peppermint cocoa and wassail. I am a peppermint cocoa fiend. I will literally make any excuse to have it. You don't have to be a top tier chef to make it fun. There's just something about making a big meal with your family and sitting down with no distractions to enjoy it. Plus, the kids love to help.

New Years Movie Marathon

New Years Eve is the day our family gets crazy. Since Trent was little we would pick series and binge the entire thing. Well, try to. The majority of the time one of us would fall asleep before we finished it. We stock up on ALL the snacks and sparkling juice and wear matching PJs (because we're the coolest.) We've binged Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and this year we plan on watching Indiana Jones.

I hope my family's traditions inspire you to create your own, or steal ours. I won't be mad, I promise.
