Do you ever feel like your skin care routine just isn’t cutting it in these dry winter months? Let me introduce you to slugging. When I saw this trend blowing up recently, I was immediately taken back to my childhood: MY MOM; The OG skincare influencer apparently! She would always end her skincare with a coat of petroleum jelly!

And that, my friends, is slugging.

Want to win some of my skincare favorites? I’m doing a giveaway this week (3/6/22-3/13/22) on my instagram. I’m giving away of some of my skincare favs that you can use when you try out slugging.

What is slugging?

Slugging is a skincare technique that involves “sealing” in your skincare products by topping your routine off with petroleum jelly.

It is essentially like a topcoat for your routine so that your skin can absorb as much of your skincare as possible. Petroleum jelly is an occlusive substance meaning it forms a barrier that prevents water from evaporating.

Who is this perfect for?

Anyone who is feeling dry or wants a little extra hydration. That is the main thing slugging will achieve. Hydrated skin will improve your texture, brightness and protect your skins natural barrier.

Here are my steps:

1. Cleanse

I’m currently using these:

2. Serums or Treatments

This by far is my favorite step. One key ingredient I always look for is Hyaluronic Acid, even in haircare! You can learn more about that in my Is Hyaluronic Acid The Missing Magic Ingredient In Your Haircare?

These are some of my favorites :

3. Moisturize

I am loving these right now:

4. Apply petroleum jelly and wear to bed

5. Wakeup, rinse & remove with face wash

6. Apply your daily moisture & SPF

I hope this explained the process of slugging to you and its benefits. Don’t forget to enter my skincare favorites giveaway on my Instagram . This giveaway will run through 3/6/22 - 3/13/22 so head over there to get entered!  <3
